Agree with sytby completely. It frustrates me beyond belief when I see people lowering or TRing off of rap rings or chains… I’ve even seen it through bolts (which is especially dangerous!). If your going up just clip 2 draws to the bolts if you’re in a hurry. When you’re coming down pull the rope up and rap down.

Folks, please rappel from the rappel rings. Lowering off through the chains, rappel rings, etc, WEARS THEM DOWN and they must be replaced at someone’s personal expense, most likely not yours. And until they are replaced, they are that much more likely to FAIL on someone.
Please Please use the equipment provided (at no cost to you) in the manner it was meant for.
Lower off on *your own gear.* And most definitely do not TR on chains or rappel rings. Please.

Excellent vid. I was climbing back when Smith was just being discovered in the mid-80s and everyone was in awe of the place and rightfully so. Good form by everyone, nicely done!

I remember going there, my first real outside climb place a few uears ago. i cnt find my old pictures,. thankyou for putting this up. it was really inspiring~! you rock! no super-cliché pun inteded
