An ArkansasClimbing reader has asked the question, “Can I recommend someone to teach rappelling in the Little Rock area?”

Thanks for the question! I love teaching people about the outdoors, climbing and SAFETY! But I live in Russellville. The closest people to you would be Little Rock Climbing Center. I am sure they have someone there that can teach you the safest techniques of rappelling.

Rappelling is a fun and exciting activity when done correctly. Take your time when selecting an instructor. Watch them closely and use common sense. The first part of your outing should take place on the ground to get the feel of the rope and gear.

Received an e-mail question from Josh about rock climbing in the Mena, Arkansas area. Josh would also like to know of any groups in the area. He and his wife have moved back to the area and want to meet other rock climbers in the area. Comment on this post or send ArkansasClimbing an e-mail.

Another person asks about training courses for beginning rock climbing. Melissa, you did not mention what area of the state you are interested in finding courses. If you are in the Fayetteville area, go to Pack Rat in Fayetteville. I know they have a couple of beginner courses twice per year, maybe more. If you are closer to Little Rock, you have to check out Little Rock Climbing Center, also follow them on twitter ( @LRclimbing ) for local updates. There are a few other indoor rock gyms in the Fayetteville area.

Climbing Partner Needed Mt. Magazine

This e-mail came in from a traveler from the West Coast. She (if you are a guy, sorry) is in need of a climbing partner Tuesday (March 23rd) or Wednesday (March 24th) at Mt. Magazine.

She wrote…

I’m stopping through Arkansas and am interested in climbing at Mt. Magazine but I don’t have a partner to climb with. What’s the best way to get in touch with climbers to partner up with or just tag along this Tuesday or Wednesday? Is there also bouldering there? Can I easily find people to climb with if I just go to the park?
