An ArkansasClimbing reader has asked the question, “Can I recommend someone to teach rappelling in the Little Rock area?”

Thanks for the question! I love teaching people about the outdoors, climbing and SAFETY! But I live in Russellville. The closest people to you would be Little Rock Climbing Center. I am sure they have someone there that can teach you the safest techniques of rappelling.

Rappelling is a fun and exciting activity when done correctly. Take your time when selecting an instructor. Watch them closely and use common sense. The first part of your outing should take place on the ground to get the feel of the rope and gear.

As always, thanks for the questions and climb and rappel safe.

Received an e-mail question from Josh about rock climbing in the Mena, Arkansas area. Josh would also like to know of any groups in the area. He and his wife have moved back to the area and want to meet other rock climbers in the area. Comment on this post or send ArkansasClimbing an e-mail.

Another person asks about training courses for beginning rock climbing. Melissa, you did not mention what area of the state you are interested in finding courses. If you are in the Fayetteville area, go to Pack Rat in Fayetteville. I know they have a couple of beginner courses twice per year, maybe more. If you are closer to Little Rock, you have to check out Little Rock Climbing Center, also follow them on twitter ( @LRclimbing ) for local updates. There are a few other indoor rock gyms in the Fayetteville area.
These are just the few off the top of my head.

Thanks for your questions, and keep them coming. You can follow Arkansas Climbing on twitter – @ArkansasClimb

Or, what about always having your own climbing wall, in your own house or yard, where you can climb regardless of the time of day, or weather conditions. Imagine that! Not having to worry about driving to the nearest climbing center, and worrying about whether it is going to be open or not, having to wait your turn and all that.

Rock Climbing helps you to develop the power of endurance, both physically and mentally. It is also done for recreation and relaxation. And it is possible to do it at your very own home, once you have your own climbing wall. But you need to know how to build it.

Simply, every section in the book is there because of a real need, identified from real live questions. Questions from people who would love to learn how to build their very own Rock Climbing Wall. A simple webpage was set up, and people like you visited it and left me their most pressing question about building a Rock Climbing Wall.

I’ve had it in the closet for a couple of years, finally got it back out, and I’m already sore. Every time I pass by it I have to do a pull up on a different hold.

I would like to know how many of our members have hang boards in their training routine, or even in their house?

I had two set up in my flat in Bahrain and in my house in Oklahoma. Now that I am back in Arkansas and close to Mt. Magazine, I am ready to get back some of what I have lost. This is going to be a daily thing!

The gym is located in the Cheer Extreme building in Fort Smith at 5917 S. 26th St. and is open Wednesday and Sunday nights starting at 9:00pm.

Currently they do not have gear for rent, so bring your own.
The routes range from 5.8 to 5.12 and they have gigantic crash pads! Sport climbing as well as top rope. They are using quality anchors, quickdraws and top chains as safety is always a factor. They have a REALLY easy going atmosphere there.

When you are in the Fort Smith area, at night, on a Wednesday or Sunday night and ready to climb, check them out.
